Secrets to Healthy Looking Hair

Written by:  Laurel Olson

Why do women color their hair?  In a survey conducted by Wella Professional, clients mentioned healthy-looking hair as the main reason, namely shine and conditioning. How does color create healthy-looking hair?  Conditioning agents and shine enhancers allow the hair to reflect more light.  As we move toward colder drier weather, hair needs a little extra help to restore health and shine.

Blonde hair:

Over-lightening and sun exposure can leave blonded strands straw-like in feel and appearance.  Deep conditioning and a change to gentler coloring products is the answer to this problem.

Highlights should be fewer in number, and concentrated around the face.  Deeper tones should be introduced to the blonde palette, choosing warm light-reflecting tones such ans amber and caramel. Demi-permanent color will add depth to overly lightened hair without further damage. The glaze should also be warmer, using honey or golden beige to blend and add shine.

To strengthen and moisturize overly blonded tresses, a deep conditioning treatment is beneficial.  Vita ciment, a salon treatment by Kerastase, replenishes intercellular cement, filling in "potholes" in the hair to strengthen it from within.

Brunettes and Redheads:

Summer sun can fade darker hues and turn them"brassy".  To rejuvinate brunette and red colors., consider covering all highlights with a translucent demi-permanent glaze that matches the base color.  Highlights will peak through but much more subtly, with increased shine and richness.  Another option is to add warm lowlights, such as coppery brown or chestnut to maintain multi-tonality.  Finish with and all over golden glaze for sparkle and to blend the color palette.

To maintain deeper hues, Kerastase Pixelist is a must after your color service.  This treatment seals in color evenly from roots to ends, and protects against color fading for long lasting shine and color brilliance.

Clients rely on their colorist for color change suggestions, and to recommend professional products for at-home maintenance to keep their color looking its best between appointments.  Come in for a free consultation on how you too can have healthy looking hair.

Chemical Straightening

Written by:  Tamara

Most curly haired people have all said it or heard it from a fellow curly haired person: “ I want straight hair!”  Well the saying is true because we always want what we don’t have.  If you are someone with curly, frizzy or unruly hair, your problem can be solved at the Antoine Du Chez County line location. We offer different services depending on hair types or needs.  For hair that is slightly curly, frizzy or unruly we offer a non-damaging service that can be done on slightly color treated hair.  This service is called Main Tamer. It is a two-step treatment giving you beautiful, healthy, straight and shiny hair. The first step to this process is to apply a non-damaging straightening solution. The second step in the process is a neutralization method, which allows the hair to remain straight and silky smooth.  This product is ideal for smoothing course hair, taming unruly curls and waves as well as undoing permed ends. This service can be performed every 4 to 6 months depending on specific hair needs.  During this time, your hair will maintain incredible shine and stay smooth and soft! This service will leave your hair in optimal condition. This will change your hairs appearance dramatically allowing you to look and feel completely fabulous.  Make sure to ask your technician about the Kerastase Oleo Relax Serum to compliment the service.

Another type of straightening service we offer is Thermal Straightening. This service is for clients with excessive curly hair and it is a bit more intense allowing overly curly and out of control hair to be permanently  straight.  This service consists of 5 steps allowing the client a very specific straightness to the hair.  Thermal straightening is also referred to as Japanese straightening/  The thermal straightening is best on extremely curly unruly hair,  it will infuse the hair with shine also eliminating frizz and allowing the hair to be much more manageable.  This service helps to deeply condition and straighten the hair.

For those of you looking for  texture in the hair we offer a service that will give you natural looking curls.  This product is thio free and damage free you will be able  to have curls that  look and feel natural without the damage!! This service will  allow you to wear your hair curly or straight just with styling alone! At Antoine Du Chez we can fit all your chemical curls or straightening needs!!!  Call the county line location today to book your complementary consultation.  A consultation is always recommend prior to these services!

Bangin'

Written by:  Kathryn Greever & Denise Unrein

As always Antoine Du Chez offers complimentary bang trims in between cuts to freshen up your look without the need of a full hair cut.
There is no need for an appoinment, just walk on in and one of our stylist will be glad to assist you.

And while we do not suggest you cut your own bangs at home (we all have heard and experienced those lovely cuts) , we all have been in the situations where there is no time to come in and you are looking like Cousin It. Below are a few tips from our team of master stylists:

Scissors- No borrowing your childs scissors or grabbing the pair from the kitchen. A good inexpensive pair can be found at Sally's or the beauty section at your local drug store.

Cut Dry- Your hair shrinks from the transistion from wet to dry. Your bangs could have the perfect look when you have cut them wet, by as soon as they are dry, you could be all forehead.

Sectioning- Part and style your hair the way that you always do. The pie section should never go beyond two inches from the hairline (at the forehead) back or past the the corners of the eye.

Making the cut- Grab a section of hair that you can hold between your middle and pointer finger. Pull the hair straight down with slight tension, if the hair is pulled too tight it will end up being uneven and too short due to natural callicks and bounce. Cut the hair a little longer than desired, you can always cut off more. Sometimes it is helpful to cut the finishing touches with the hair falling down naturally, this will expose the natural movement of the hair.

Side swept- Instead of cutting straight across, you want to cut the shortest piece where you want it to fall and angle it down at the desired end length.

We hope these few simple tips will you help you get by in your time crunch until one of our stylist are able to assist you.

Lighten Up! Spring is here...

Written by:  Laurel Olson

The Hair Color Trends are Warm & Sunny

After a long drab and stressful Winter, this Summer its time to lighten up those dull darker shades and add warmth and sunshine to washed out blondes, brunettes and redheads.  Here are a few tips on how to create the perfect spring look for all hair colors and undo the winter drabs!

Blondes will be warmer and richer this season.  Reflective tones such as caramel, butterscotch, and strawberry blonde are placed next to cooler beige pieces.  This gives the hair the appearance of amazing movement.  When your base is a medium neutral blonde, it complements (without competing) the dimensional highlights and lowlights.  To blend colors and get mega shine, add a light golden blonde glaze to finish!

Brunettes will also lighten up, with bases of chestnut, maple and chocolate.  Adding slightly lighter highlights of caramel or toffee in varying widths gives the feeling of wood-grained dimension.  Just a few face-framing lighter pieces can make all the difference for brunettes.  An all over golden glaze adds shine and light reflection for an amazing finished look.

Redheads will also brighten up and add dimension.  As with blondes, combining warm and cool tones really makes the colors stand out.  A copper base, with alternating foils of amber and mahogany will help to revitalize winter reds.

One last tip…Dry winter air does a number on our hair.  Now is the time to get that conditioning treatment!  Kerastase Age Recharge, Oleofusion and Pixelist are my favorites because they help moisturize and strengthen dry ends.  Used after a color service, these treatments also help retain color in the hair strand by closing the cuticle and adding protective agents which helps your color last longer between services.  Hair care products with UV filters such as Kerastase Chroma Protect, further shield the hair color from oxidation, which causes  fading and can  turn hair brassy.

The Importance of Hair Color and Pofessional Hair Care Products

Written by:  Melanie Blessant

Great hair care products are the key to keeping fabulous color and the health of the hair. Our guests look to us for the latest and most updated color trends and styles that best suits their individual desires. Each guest needs to be consulted individually so we completely understand what you are looking for in order to provide to you your desired look . The consultation involves: specific wants and needs, hair type, condition of the hair, how much upkeep will be involved and what type of profession you are in to tailor a professional look that separates you from the rest.

The L'Oreal Professional hair color is an exceptional product line that is available only in certain salons. With their ongoing support through continuing education, our staff stays up to speed on the direction of trends in the industry which allows us to stay ahead and continue to be pioneers in the market.

Hair care products play a vital part in maintaining the condition and beauty of hair color.

Kerastase is a professional hair care product line that we use in our salons and is extremely exclusive in the hair industry. Kerastase has many different types of in-salon conditioning treatments that we prescribe to our guests with a hair color or hair cutting services. Each treatment depends on individual hair type or specific issues with damage to the hair shaft. Kerastase has a wide range of professional hair care products and it is up to us as industry experts to educate our guests on certain products to use in order to maintain their hair at home. It is important that color treated hair stay protected in order to allow it to sustain a longer lasting look.

Balance the Highs with the Lows

Written by:  Laurel Olson

Lowlighting, adding a client's natural color level back into the hair, has many advantages.  As a highlighted client gets lighter with repeated highlight services, she will eventually become extremely blonde which will allow her roots to show sooner.  The result of this is to either schedule your coloring services more often in order to hide the roots and maintain that vibrant color or start to add in low lights to bring back your natural color tone.  Adding lowlights back into the hair will help blend outgrowth and lengthen the time in between color services.  Lowlights add richness and dimension to blonde hair without the dramatic change of an all over darker color.  Highlights tend to flatten and dull the shine over time so shimmery lowlights and a richer, honey glaze will bring back shine and dimension.

As summer arrives and clients want to brighten up, it's best to start with richer honey blondes and gradually lighten over time as skin tone gets more color of its own.  But remember to rev up conditioning to keep blonded hair healthy and shiny.  Keep balancing the highs with the lows for beautiful dimensional blondes all year long!

Blondes on a Budget

Written by:  Cherry Creek Salon

Did you know that the average blonde spends an average of $2,500 on hair maintenance a year?  That was the figure that blonde gurus Melanie Blessant and Kim Cocozzella found after surveying blondes from across the Denver market in regards to their spending patterns on cutting, color, styling and retail products.

Cherry Creek Salon owner and lead colorist Melanie Blessant and colorist Kim Cocozzella realized that in this tough economic time there had to be a better way.   The team at Antoine Du Chez crafted a way to help slash the cost while maintaining the high standards they and their customers expect.  After much thought and collaboration “Blondes on a Budget” was born.

Under New Ownership

ANTOINE DU CHEZ GETS A MAKEOVER OF ITS OWN –

  • NEW OWNERS
  • NEW SERVICES
  • AND A BRAND NEW LOOK!!

When Christy Fitzpatrick and Melanie Blessant bought the Cherry Creek establishment Antoine Du Chez Salon and Spa (at the same time their partners Nick Anderson and MK Bolling bought County Line and Bellevue locations) their goal was to update the look and services of the salon while remaining true to their long time clients. Having been a colorist and stylist at the salon for over 20 years before purchasing Antoine Du Chez, new owner Melanie Blessant has a strong connection and love of the salon that is evident in her commitment to all of her clients. “It was very important to me that we continue to honour our long time loyal guests yet make updates and changes that would bring them a better overall experience.”

A little over a year after they took over ownership of the salon, Christy and Melanie are over the moon to unveil the new look and feel of the salon including:

  • Exclusive new luxury manicure and pedicure room perfect for private parties
  • Addition of Todd Putman, celebrity stylists, as the Creative Director
  • Floor remodel and station redesign
  • Luxurious new treatments including: oxygenated facial treatments and ultrasound micro-dermabrasion

Christy and Melanie greatly enjoy getting to work with some of the finest talent in the industry and have served with immense pleasure Antoine du Chez’s valued regular guests. They absolutely love the fact that you never know just who may come in to the facility on any given day. In addition to the salon regulars, there are sports celebrities, television personalities, movie stars, governmental dignitaries, novelists, philanthropists, religious leaders, heads of large corporations and some people are who are just downright characters that light up the salon. Christy and Melanie believe it is a wonderful thing to have an opportunity to make people feel and look good every day!

How to Get a Hair Color You Love

Written by:  Laurel Olson

What is the best way to get hair color you love?  Good communication with your colorist!

In order to get the colorist and client on the same page, it helps to understand a few key words we use to describe color: Dimension, Richness, Depth and Tone.

Dimension simply means having a variety or colors in the hair.

Richness and Depth refer to adding warmth and darkness to hair.  Adding richness and dimension will bring life back to hair that appears monotone and drab.

Tone refers to the various shades of hair color that you prefer which compliment your skin tone and eye color.  For example; gold, copper, auburn and mahogany are warm tones that complement ivory and beige skin as well as enhance green, hazel and brown eyes.  Ash and beige tones are cool or matte which help neutralize reddish complexions and bring out the best in blue eyes.

Previous hair treatments and the condition of your hair determine the type of products and formulas a colorist will use to help predict the outcome of your color.  Your colorist needs to know if you personally have previously colored your hair.  They would like to know what products and about how long ago it has been.

One final tip … Bring pictures  as it is a huge help in understanding what look you would like – colorists and stylists love and appreciate that.

Now that you have an understanding of the terms we use to describe hair color, you are on your way to getting the most beautiful, healthy looking color possible!!
